Football abuse allegations deepen
Posted on: November 25, 2016
The story of historical child sexual abuse in football has escalated today after it was reported to the Guardian that a former Newcastle United player contacted the police to allege that he too had been sexually abused as a child.
The ex-player; who has not been named at this time alleges that he was abused by George Ormond; a former youth coach at the club in 2002. Ormond was labelled a “predatory abuser” by the judge at Newcastle crown court when he was imprisoned, aged 46, in 2002.
In addition to this allegation, two further ex-footballers; Jason Dunford and Chris Unsworth have revealed to the press that they too were sexually abused by former Crewe Alexandra coach Barry Bennell.
Aged 62 years old; Bennell has served three prison sentences totalling 15 years in England and the United States since he was first arrested in 1992 and has multiple convictions for sexually abusing boys he coached.
