Police are conducting 10 major investigations into child sex abuse allegations at institutions across Derbyshire.

Derbyshire are now dealing with 10 major investigations into allegations of child sexual abuse at institutions across Derbyshire. It is believed that the allegations revolve around children’s homes, a hospital and sports clubs.

It is believed that police have been looking at claims of abuse at the former Aston Hall mental hospital, Elmhurst the ex-children’s home in Littleover and Overseal Manor in South Derbyshire. Over one hundred people have contacted the police to claim they were abused at the hospital in Aston on Trent.

Seven of the investigations relate to children’s homes. There are also two more inquiries which are sports related and at least one is believed to involve a sports club, according to a report put before police bosses.

Police have said in relation to the inquiry into Elmhurst children’s home in Lonsdale Place, Derby that a pensioner had been arrested on suspicion of historical sexual offences linked to the home which are believed to have happened in the 70s and 80s.

The report also said numerous referrals had been made to police which could not be progressed due to the suspect not being known or the complainant wanting to remain anonymous.
