Who will act for the survivor?
Uppal Taylor Solicitors have a specialist team of solicitors who act for survivors of childhood abuse and maltreatment. The solicitor acting for each survivor will have many years of experience in dealing with claims of this nature and will be able to advise survivors fully of their options from the outset of any claim. All the survivors of childhood abuse that we represent receive a confidential, professional and sympathetic service from the outset.
The survivor was abused many years ago, should they still consult a solicitor?
We fully understand that many survivors may not come forward for many years for whatever reason. Just because the incidents occurred many years ago does not preclude you from bringing a claim. Please read our section on Limitation in Child Abuse Claims.
The survivor just wants to make an enquiry into any legal remedies available to them.
That’s fine. We do not pressure our clients into bringing a claim. If, after speaking with us, you do not wish to continue with a legal remedy or wish time to consider your options we will respect your wishes. All enquiries are dealt with in the strictest of confidence.
The survivor may not want to tell a stranger what happened.
At Uppal Taylor Solicitors we fully understand how hard it will be to recount painful and traumatic incidents to a solicitor for the first time. We would, however, require any survivor to give us a brief overview of the abuse and their life at the initial meeting, which can be done by telephone if the survivor feels more comfortable to ensure that any advice we give is accurate. We aim, with all our clients, to build a rapport and this objective is achieved from our personal approach. We are also able to travel to see the survivor in their own home if they feel more comfortable in this environment.
The survivor has a criminal record, who will believe them?
We will. We do not judge our clients, we listen. Whatever the background of the survivor they can rest assured that they will receive the same service as our other clients.
The survivor was a difficult child, they probably deserved what happened to them?
At Uppal Taylor Solicitors we believe that no matter how difficult a child was or what they did they do not deserve to be abused.
The survivor lives miles away from Uppal Taylor Solicitors.
Uppal Taylor Solicitors are highly specialised in this type of work and are the market leaders. We represent clients all over the England and Wales and, if the survivor is unable to attend the Office, we will visit them.
The survivor has fears of the legal process and knows nothing about the law.
At Uppal Taylor Solicitors we are aware that the legal process can be traumatic. Not only will the survivor have to recount painful and traumatic memories but will face the legal minefield in order to reach a conclusion. At Uppal Taylor Solicitors we give plain advice and advise all our clients, at each step of the process, what is happening and what the next stage will be. From the outset we will tell the survivor what the litigation process will involve; we will not put sugar on the process and will tell the survivor exactly how it is so they can make their own decisions.
We pride ourselves in our approach to dealing with survivors of abuse. We like our clients to be involved in the legal process and ensure that our clients are fully aware, at each stage of the process, of the current position and the way forward.
